**Your new role**
Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) calls for “affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” by 2030. However, according to the international organisation Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), while the number of people without access to electricity has declined from 1.2 billion in 2010 to 733 million in 2020 there are still approximately 700 million+ people will still lack access in 2030. Similarly, one third of the world’s population remained without access to clean cooking in 2020.

We are seeking a motivated individual who is keen to help solve the global energy access challenge. You will work in collaboration with the Director of the Curtin Institute for Energy Transition, and other Curtin University researchers to develop and conduct high quality, applied research programs relevant to SDG7. This will involve developing key partnerships with relevant government and industry stakeholders. Through partnering with organisations such as the World Bank, Asia Development Bank, ICIMOD, and other philanthropic organisations, universities and research institutions. The important and transformative work you do will help to build the capacity of developing, low and middle income countries in the Global South and Sub-Saharan Africa to ultimately help to improve the livelihoods of people living in these regions.

This work aligns with the both the UNs sustainable development goals and the university's global sustainability objectives.

- You must also be willing and available to travel domestically and internationally from time to time.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Relevant PhD qualification in energy poverty and climate change or a closely related discipline in the Global South.
- Experience in advance quantitative research methods such as designing, conducting, and interpreting interviews, surveys, and other experimental design.
- Demonstrated evidence of leading research grants in energy and climate change issues in the Global South.
- Demonstrated evidence of an ability to translate research findings into materials suitable for lay audiences including policy briefs and newspaper articles in the issues of energy and climate change in the Global South.
- Excellent communication skills demonstrated through conference and peer-reviewed publications.
- Experience conducting policy analysis, policy evaluation and policy simulations
- Demonstrated experience in engaging and leading research projects independently as well as evidence of working on collaborative research projects.
- Evidence of strong collaboration with regional networks engaged in policy focused research in energy and climate change in global south.
- In depth knowledge of policy making in energy and climate change in the Global South

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Willingness and ability to supervise honours and master students (e.g., in energy and climate change issues in the Global South).
- Demonstrated experience in industry or government or civil service organisations in the Global South working on energy and climate change issues.
