If so, the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) ‘Stepping Into’ Internship Program can help you to gain paid, practical work experience relating to various degrees and related disciplines.

DCJ works with the Australian Network on Disability (AND) to offer paid internship opportunities for university students with disability.

We are currently looking for interns for the Winter 2023 intake. The internship will take place between June-August 2023.

**The opportunity**

The Transforming Aboriginal Outcomes (TAO) communications team are looking for an intern who brings enthusiasm and drive to the role of Communications Officer.

As part of this internship opportunity, you may be tasked with:

- Coordinating components of a major event - NSW Koori Knockout. The NSW Koori Knockout will be held on the Central Coast on the first weekend of October. We will be sponsoring the event and having a stall onsite. To have an effective presence, TAO communications need to coordinate collateral, including flyers, merch, banners and incidentals.
- Writing ongoing staff profiling and case studies, social media posts and articles.
- Assisting with various projects that enhance Aboriginal employment and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander days of significance through event planning and grants administration.

**The team**

TAO communications sit within the Campaigns, Strategy and Events Unit in the Communications branch and work for TAO. TAO is addressing the causes of Aboriginal disadvantage in NSW and improving the department’s services and programs to achieve meaningful, permanent outcomes for Aboriginal people. TAO is working toward Closing the Gap Targets and reducing the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in adult incarceration, youth justice, out-of-home care and domestic and family violence cases.

TAO communications works with various units in the TAO division to collect stories and updates that showcase successes and progress in DCJ’s policies, programs and priorities. We share these communications internally and externally via channels such as the intranet, newsletters, social media, events and targeted stakeholder engagement.

We also support broad-reaching support of Aboriginal outcomes in DCJ, including enhancing Aboriginal Employment and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander days of significance through event planning and grants administration.
