**About the opportunity**
The Information and Privacy Officer will lead the agency’s commitment to its information access and privacy principles. This role is responsible for:
- Responding to a wide variety of requests for information, and coordinating and actioning privacy complaints and breaches
- Making decisions regarding the release of information in accordance with legislation and associated policies and procedures
- Providing paralegal and administrative support and assisting with the coordination of Parliamentary, Ministerial and other agency requests
- Ensuring that staff are aware of their obligations through the provision of specialist advice and training, as well as supporting compliance with the agency’s privacy and public information access
The role would suit someone who:
- Has the ability to thrive in a complex, high volume, legislative environment with competing priorities and short turnaround times
- Has previous experience or an interest in releasing government information under the GIPA Act, including responding to formal and informal requests for information
- Is a team player who enjoys working closely with stakeholders and has excellent written and verbal communication skills

Each NSW SES Unit is as unique and varied as the community it serves, reflecting the vast mix of risks faced and roles required in the diverse locations and communities across the state. In addition to flood, storm and tsunami, our Service provides specialist capabilities that include general land rescue, vertical rescue, road crash rescue, and alpine and remote area search and rescue. The NSW SES responded to over 64,000 requests for assistance from the community over the 2021-22 year.
The NSW SES has over 10,000 volunteer members and a
full-time equivalent workforce of over 460. There are 261 volunteer Units across the State and our volunteer Units are either local, community-based Units, State-wide or regional Units established to provide specialist capabilities. They are varied and unique in their capabilities, designed to address specific risks to communities of NSW
**About you**
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have excellent time management skills and a willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities with the ability to meet deadlines while working in pressured situations.
- Be able to research and provide accurate advice on GIPA and privacy obligations, while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Be able to assess and make sense of large volumes of complex information, identifying key issues and details.
- Have sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise judgement and demonstrate decisiveness.
- Proactively develop work plans and priorities ensuring that decisions are made within the scope of the role and accuracy of work to withstand review and scrutiny.
- Write well and be able to build productive, trusted relationships and engage internal and external stakeholders.
