Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD). The position will be primarily located at **Nepean Hospital**_ _**within the Department of **Paediatrics.**
Applicants who are expected to receive Fellowship within next months may also be considered.
Successful applicants will work within the Nepean Department of Paediatrics and be based at Nepean Hospital. The successful applicant will work closely with Consultant Paediatricians at Nepean Hospital and at other sites within NBMLHD as well as Forensic medical unit team at Nepean Hospital.
The successful applicant will be a Staff Specialist Paediatrics with specialist interest in child protection who will:
- Provide clinical support and consultation to Paediatric teams across NBMLHD in the assessment and management of children where physical abuse and/ or neglect is suspected. This may include assistance in acute assessments and acute review if necessary.
- Provision of holistic outpatient clinical services to at risk populations as identified by the department. This includes assessment and management of at risk and vulnerable patients in the outpatient clinics both within the hospital and in the community.
- Attend child protection cases and support JMO led child protection medical assessments and liaise with Department of Communities and Justice, Registrars, Allied Health team members, and on call consultant on child protection cases.
- Contribute to the General Paediatric on-call roster as required.
- Provide child protection training, mentoring and supervision of other staff within NBMLHD within the scope of their practice.
- Provide Expert Opinions in cases seen directly by them and support other examiners in their preparation of expert certificates or reports for court as required. They will provide peer review for Expert Opinions written by other staff members (within the scope of their role) and will attend court as an Expert Witness upon receipt of a valid subpoena.
- Provide high quality, empathetic and respectful clinical care to all patients, in line with the expectations of the highly sensitive nature of the case presentations and guidelines issued by NSW Health. The ability to manage confidential patient information in line with established policies and the relevant legislation is paramount.
- Actively participate in appropriate clinical governance and quality improvement activities, peer review, research, supervision of other staff, and other relevant non-clinical tasks relevant to this senior medical position, including teaching to under
- and postgraduate clinical staff and external agencies (such as NSW Police Force).
The successful applicant will be employed 3 days per week, with a contribution to the on-call roster as needed**.** Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Possess Fellowship of the **Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) **or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997** **and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award in specialty of General Paediatrics.
