Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position (s) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at **Nepean Hospital**_ _**within the Department of **Drug & Alcohol Services.**
Successful applicants will be required to possess Fellowship of the RACP (Paediatrics) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award and an interest in Addiction Medicine, demonstrate evidence of continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice requirements of the position, demonstrate clinical knowledge and interest in the development and impacts of substance misuse in infancy, childhood and adolescence. Commitment to the harm minimization philosophy underpinning the field of Addiction Medicine, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position, possess high level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
The Staff Specialist will be responsible for assessment and management of patients up to the age of 18, presenting and referred to the District Wide Drug and Alcohol service and District hospitals with Drug and Alcohol use. The position will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, contributing to strategic planning, service development, teaching, and research. The staff specialist will work within a multidisciplinary model of care, managing the complex range of concerns and issues faced by these young patients and their families, including developmental, medical and mental health co-morbidities.
The Staff Specialist position will work across the District Wide drug and alcohol service, offering drug and alcohol consult liaison, outpatient and inpatient services as required for the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with substance use, or who may have been affected prenatally by parental substance misuse.
Successful applicants will be involved in a wide varied workload and will be expected to participate in the on-call roster, which is not limited to the approval or organisation of admissions to the inpatient ward but also provides advice on clinical issues associated with substance misuse and dependency to all three hospitals in the LHD. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
2. Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (**RACP Paediatrics) (Community child health/ General Paediatrics **and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1997 and Staff Specialists (State) Award and Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
3. Sound clinical knowledge in Paediatrics demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
4. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
6. Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
7. Sound clinical knowledge and experience in the subspecialty of Adolescent Addiction Medicine demonstrated by relevant qualifications
