About the role
We are seeking a values-driven Moneycare Problem Gambling Financial Counsellor to provide holistic financial counselling and advocacy services to people in financial difficulty or crisis. You will be required to recognise the ways in which other life issues may interact with personal financial issues, considers the clients’ unique circumstances, their financial history and financial behaviours. You will conduct group community education (financial literacy/capability) sessions where appropriate and in consultation with the Moneycare Manager with a view to helping people build longer-term capability, manage their money better and make informed choices.
You will successfully
- Provide a holistic financial counselling and advocacy service to people in financial difficulty or crisis which recognises the ways in which other life issues may interact with personal financial issues, considers the clients’ unique circumstances, their financial history and financial behaviours
- Conduct group community education (financial literacy/capability) sessions where appropriate and in consultation with the Moneycare Manager with a view to helping people build longer-term capability, manage their money better and make informed choices
- Client counselling sessions and community education sessions are conducted regularly and at a rate determined by the Moneycare Manager
- Review Open cases regularly and closed promptly on completion
- Information provided and actions taken, lead to positive outcomes for clients (achieved in the majority of cases as reflected in statistical data and client feedback). Over 90% of client feedback, as evidenced by returned feedback sheets, is positive and indicates the building of capability in clients
- Develop effective working relationships with relevant community organisations, government departments and financial institutions
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of, and compliance with, relevant legal, regulatory and Moneycare processes and policies. Evidence of compliance with funding body requirements
- Operate the local Moneycare practise with autonomy but within TSA and Moneycare policy and procedure, managing own scheduling, case load and reporting of statistical data
- Provide monthly reports to Moneycare Manager and to the Divisional Mission and Resource Director - Social, as requested
- Additional duties as determined by the Moneycare Manager
This is a fixed term (2 years) part time position (30.4 hrs per week), based in Mount Gravatt, QLD. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS (Level 5 Accredited, Level 4 Diploma, Level 3 Training).
You will have
- Accreditation as a Financial Counsellor or willingness to attain as soon as possible
- Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) or be willing to undertake study from outset
- Demonstrated ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated money management and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with people suffering difficulties and crisis
- 12+months experience in a relevant field
- Degree qualifications or extensive experience in the fields of welfare, finance, community services, psychology or business fields is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work within a counselling framework is highly regarded
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, active listening and analytical skills
- Proficiency working within a Windows Office environment
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under conflicting time pressures
- Compassionate and non-judgmental
- Willingness to travel on occasion for training and development
- Flexibility with hours at times to meet the operational requirements of the role
- A Current Drivers Licence
