**What does the business unit do?**

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

Data, Digital and Insights (DDI) focuses on meeting the departments data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. The specialist groups within DDI consist of Technology Solutions and Evidence and Insights.

Technology Solutions explores and employs modern technology to enable the department's business to function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services.

Evidence and Insights is responsible for providing end-to-end evidence-based policy support to the Department of Justice and Community Safety, and the reporting of data and research to the Victorian public through the Crime Statistics Agency and the National Coronial Information System.

**What will the role do?**

As the Manager, Aboriginal Data and Research, you will be responsible for leadership in a program of work overseeing and managing data, analysis and evaluation needs supporting the implementation of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement.

This position works closely with the Koori Justice Unit to support the data, analytics and evaluation needs of AJA community stakeholders and develop plans and projects to meet those needs.

**What skills should a Manager, Aboriginal Data and Research have?**
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, including society and culture, the issues impacting on it and how these inform ethical and appropriate analysis and use of data.
- A strong understanding of data gathering methods and management, analysis and visualization techniques to turn qualitative and quantitative data into practical insights to inform policy and program decision making.- Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal programs and services within the criminal justice system.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community and their leadership
- A tertiary level qualification in social research, evaluation, data analytics, criminology, economics or a related field is highly desirable.
