The South Australian Government is committed to creating a fairer and more inclusive and knowledgeable society for the autistic and autism communities. The Office for Autism has been established within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) and will lead a dedicated whole-of-Government approach.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, DPC, the Director, Office for Autism will be responsible for working with appropriate Government Departments and agencies to help implement South Australia’s first Autism Strategy and whole-of-Government Autism Charter. This pivotal new role will lead initiatives to support the autistic and autism communities to navigate Government services, and provide a trusted, central point of contact to access required information.

Key outcomes of this role include:

- helping bring the Autism Strategy to life, focusing on delivery of actions in consultation with the autistic and autism communities, the Assistant Minister and relevant Advisory Committees;
- providing central agency leadership in best practice strategies to support the autistic and autism communities;
- working with the public and private sectors to focus on employment opportunities towards creation of a society that respects the dignity of every autistic person;
- establishing and maintaining effective collaborations and strategic alliances with key stakeholders on issues affecting the autistic and autism communities;
- leading the efficient and effective operational and organisational management of the division.

Applications are encouraged from appropriately qualified professionals with experience at a senior level in a social policy environment. A highly developed understanding of issues and barriers affecting the autistic and autism communities together with the strategic thinking and analytical skills required to shape and lead strategic advice are key requirements. A proven capacity for diverse and culturally appropriate communication and influence, demonstrated success in achieving change through collaboration and a high level of drive, professionalism and leadership capability are amongst the attributes sought.
