**About the team**

The Budget Planning and Analysis team is in Treasury’s Budget Division, which is a central budget management team. We tend to look at large-scale, whole of government issues. To ensure we are great advisors we work daily with teams across the Treasury, Ministerial Offices and the broader public sector.

When our team members come to work they explore deep and interesting issues. We provide advice on issues such as
- “What changes have happened to the fiscal outlook since the budget was handed down, and what’s driving the change?”
- “What is the fastest growing part of the budget?”
- “For upcoming policy rounds, what information will Ministers need to make good policy choices?”
- “What would the impact be if certain risks eventuated?”
- “What best practices can NSW implement from other jurisdictions?”

A critical function of our team is to provide the Government with the latest and best fiscal projection. We project the aggregates not just for the current budget year, but across the medium term. The fiscal outlook is driven by multiple factors - from policy decisions to the latest economic outlook - so a unique part of this team is we work with branches right across the Treasury. We regularly provide advice to the Treasury Secretary, the Treasurer and Expenditure Review Committee of Cabinet.

We are a team that needs to write clear and interesting analysis for a public audience - whether that’s drafting chapters in the NSW Budget or providing advice to Ministers and Parliament. From time to time we also present to large groups inside and outside our organisation.

**About the role**

For this role we are seeking someone who:

- thrives in a dynamic environment, particularly someone who is comfortable analysing and responding to emerging issues in short timeframes
- is excellent at consulting, so policy options are well thought-out and consider the impacts on stakeholders
- enjoys balancing multiple priorities at any one time
- can be trusted to review and assess confidential informatio
