**Fixed term contract opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow - School of Chemical Engineering for a period of 12 months.**

**The School of Chemical Engineering is seeking to appoint a talented postdoctoral researcher, as part of our team in the Centre for Energy Technology, to play a leading role in the decarbonisation of heavy industry.**

This is an opportunity to be part of the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC) that brings together industries, researchers, and government organisations seeking new low-carbon technologies and methods that will overcome barriers, and help transition the steel, iron, alumina, and cement industries and allow them to thrive in a carbon-neutral world.

Based in the School of Chemical Engineering at The University of Adelaide, you will be expected to work collaboratively with industry and other researchers on a program to develop and de-risk technological solutions for the decarbonation of production processes in these heavy industries.

In this role you will contribute to establishing a cost estimation tool that allows heavy industries to estimate likely cost trajectories for delivering hydrogen into their plants. The tasks will include but are not limited to establishing a cost database and methodology, hub location selection and locating the sub-systems (i.e. export points, hydrogen production facilities etc) and multi-variable optimisation of hydrogen energy systems in the selected hubs. You will also contribute to work aimed at accommodating low-carbon but variable renewable energy sources within production processes employed in heavy industry.

**To be successful you will need**:

- A degree, or preferably a PhD, in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in the design and Techno-economic assessment of low-emission energy technologies; experience in the modelling of hydrogen energy systems is highly regarded.
- Experience in mathematical modelling, optimisation and coding in Python or a similar programming language
- Well-developed communication skills and an ability to prepare high-quality scientific publications and to present engagingly to different audiences
