The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009 (the Fair Work Act). Our role is to promote harmonious, productive and cooperative workplace relations and ensure compliance with Australian workplace laws. You will be part of an executive team that works collaboratively to lead the agency to use its resources strategically to achieve fairness in Australian workplaces.

The FWO is seeking to appoint a key member of the executive team, who will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (as established under Part 5-2 of the Fair Work Act), and have responsibility for leading the Large Corporates and Industrial Compliance Group which is a key priority for the agency. The executive team is responsible for leading the achievement of the agency’s purpose and priorities.

It is essential that you have excellent judgement, highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, exceptional stakeholder relationships and engagement skills, and a demonstrated and deep understanding of the Fair Work Act and the agency’s purpose and broader operating environment. You should also have a great track record of effectively leading staff in a politically sensitive environment.

**Typical Duties**

Reporting directly to the FWO, the Deputy Fair Work Ombudsman, Large Corporates and Industrial Compliance will:

- Work effectively and collaboratively with FWO’s Executives to provide strategic leadership of the agency including as a core member of the Enforcement Board and Corporate Board.
- Lead the Large Corporates and Industrial Compliance Group including developing the capability of the Group and undertake succession planning.
- Oversee complex investigations, negotiate compliance and enforcement outcomes that are in the public interest, and work collaboratively with the Chief Counsel and broader Legal Group to provide strategic direction and support with litigation commenced by the FWO under the Fair Work Act.
- Provide oversight and accountability of activities such as budget, procurement and contract management for the Group to ensure efficient and ethical use of Commonwealth resources.
- Proactively build and sustain relationships within the agency, with the Minister’s office and Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), across the Australian Public Service and other regulators, peak bodies, community groups and other external stakeholders.
- Represent the FWO, including appearing as a witness at Senate inquiries and hearings.

- Demonstrated experience in successfully leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality outcomes.
- Exceptional communication and relationship management skills to inspire your team and engage with highly experienced workplace relations stakeholders across, and external to, the FWO.
- Strong understanding of the Fair Work Act and appreciation of the legal and regulatory frameworks and operational context relevant to the FWO.
