**The Role**
The APS5 Security Advisor is accountable, with mínimal supervision, to support the APS6 Senior Security Advisor to perform and achieve complex protective security work and deliver business outcomes for the Navy Intelligence and Information Warfare (NI&IW) Branch.

They will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility.

The APS5 Security Advisor is accountable to have and maintain an established understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

The role works in a small team environment and involves high collaboration and engagement with stakeholders to develop and help implement Security policies within NI&IW Branch.

The key duties of the position includes:

- Facilitating security training and awareness sessions to support the protective security needs of Defence.
- Providing protective security advice, based on policy and legislative requirements, to achieve appropriate security controls and decision making.
- Assist with conducting reviews, assessments and investigations to achieve protective security objectives.
- Performing procedural/administrative support (e.g. security reporting, managing the security inbox and maintenance of security assets).
- Assist with managing Protective Security Zones 4, 5 and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).
- Maintaining and confirming security clearance levels and access requirements for NI&IW Branch members, as well as for invited guests/visitors.

The Branch structure consists of around 70 personnel within nine directorates, plus the Executive team and employs an integrated workforce; consisting of mostly Navy personnel, supported by a smaller number of APS and contractor personnel.

The Security Advisor is located within the Directorate Branch Operations (DBOPS), as part of a small team of APS employees, and supports the Senior Security Advisor.

The DBOPS team supports the NI&IW Branch in finance, procurement, security, information management and HR functions.
