**About the Role**:
The Information Security Officer at Melbourne Polytechnic is responsible for safeguarding the institution's information assets by designing and implementing robust security controls and ensuring compliance with key frameworks like NIST and ISO27001. This role involves monitoring and managing security incidents, integrating security measures across the organization, and working closely with the Director of Information Management & Security to enhance the institution's security posture. Additionally, the officer will promote a culture of security awareness and effective practices to meet regulatory requirements and advance Melbourne Polytechnic's information security strategy.
**Duties**:
- Develop information security strategies, both short-term and long-range, in support of the
institution’s goals.
- Assess and aid in the implementation of the VPDSF standards to improve our enterprise-wide
Information Security Maturity Level as required by OVIC (Office of the Victorian Information
Commissioner).
- Work with other departments to ensure that information security is an integral part of system
and solution requirements, processes, procurement activities and contract management.
- Oversee activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the
institution’s information security policies and procedures for preventing, detecting, identifying,
analysing and responding to information security events and incidents, including clear escalation,
communication processes and lines of authority; manage the response to information security
events and incidents, and support the ongoing testing of plans.

**Skills and Experience Required**:
- Undergraduate degree qualifications and/or certifications in information security; together with at least
5 years subsequent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of and implementation of cyber security frameworks and standards
such as ISO27001, VPDSF, NIST CSF, ACSC Essential 8, ISM, PSPF etc.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing information security policies and programs, uplifting
organisation information security maturity or similar work.
- Proven experience in communication, and monitoring of risk and information security policies,
procedures and controls in line with industry best practices.
- Proven experience in information security incident response, with an emphasis on identification of
incidents and co-ordination of response activities across a large and diverse environment.
