As Assistant Director you will be supporting a small team of Rehabilitation Advisors to manage a diverse case load of compensable and non-compensable cases and early intervention. You will exercise a considerable degree of independence and undertake a leadership role, with work being performed under the broad direction of the Director People Support. You will manage the delivery of injury management initiatives and manage relationships with stakeholders. The role can be undertaken from all capital cities with flexible work options. Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill a single non ongoing vacancy which may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

The division provides stewardship, support and services across integrity; conduct; property; fraud and corruption; security; performance management; rehabilitation management; recruitment; learning and development; inclusion and diversity; workforce planning and analytics; workplace relations; people support; culture and health, safety and wellbeing.

The People and Policy Branch are the front line of human resources (HR) for the department. We deliver timely and accurate responses to various client groups and support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusting relationships with employees and business areas. We offer general and specialist HR advice and case management services for issues related to workplace relations, performance, probation, recruitment, attendance, behaviour and workplace rehabilitation.

The Rehabilitation Team provides tailored rehabilitation case management services for the department, supporting our people with a strong focus on providing support to staff and managers on complex health related matters. The team offers specialised advice on complex early intervention and rehabilitation matters to drive outcomes for all stakeholders. The operating environment is largely driven by the needs of our business and its people and whole of APS and department specific HR policies and programs.

**The Job**
- Lead and manage the Rehabilitation Case Management team to deliver excellent services and achieve the best possible outcome for the department.
- Oversee the resolution of complex/high-risk matters, and case management issues.
- Oversee the preparation of complex and sensitive correspondence, briefs, and documentation in a timely manner for senior executives and external regulators and courts/arbitrators.
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement of injury management and other relevant procedures, processes and strategies and provide high level service delivery.
- Attend regular network forums with Comcare/ORAMS and other agencies.

**Knowledge and experience**
- Demonstrated experience in utilising judgement and discretion to manage complex and sensitive HR matters.
- Demonstrated experience leading a team managing compensable and non-compensable rehabilitation case management.

**Eligibility**
**Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance** - This position requires a No security clearance.

**Pre-employment Check** - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.

**MSIC and ASIC Licences **- If the position requires unescorted access within an aviation or maritime security zone, you will be required to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
