**Head of Engineering & Maintenance - VARA**:

Virgin Australia Regional Airline operates out of Perth Airport and has a fleet of F100 aircraft and A320 aircraft that predominantly conduct charter operations to regional Western Australia. VARA has continued to operate through COVID-19 and beyond to support our major clients in the mining industry and the future is exciting and prosperous.

The **Head of Engineering and Maintenance** role for VARA is a significant strategy and leadership role and is responsible for leading all activities conducted by VARA engineering and maintenance. To deliver safe, compliant, and competitive outcomes thorough direct management, coaching and mentoring of direct reports, and to ensure the highest levels of safety, technical, regulatory, and commercial performance.

This is a senior leadership position and will drive strategy and business transformation for VARA. This includes identifying, evaluating, and executing transformation opportunities and working collaboratively to ensure the overall success of VARA.

**What is required in the role**:

- Assist the EGM in developing the strategic direction of Vara operations and provide direction to deliver outcomes to achieve Engineering and Maintenance goals and objectives
- Oversee the execution of activity for each of the Engineering and Maintenance departments. Manage and maintain the Engineering & Maintenance department establishment plans to ensure business objectives are being met.
- Ensuring that engineering operations are conducted in a manner which complies with obligations as an AOC and CoA holder. Ensuring that Engineering & Maintenance areas are adequately resourced to meet and support the requirements of the AOC and CoA operational and commercial objectives
- Ensure all direct reports understand their safety and regulatory responsibilities and manage employee performance to meet these expectations
- Satisfy the requirements of CASA to become an accountable manager for CASR42 and/or CASR145
- Responsible for the ongoing management of the Engineering Safety Management System and continuing airworthiness compliance
- Manage and deliver strategies to continuously improve occupational health, safety, and environment.
- Preparing and implementing, monitoring, and controlling the Engineering budget - Maintenance Economics.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining key management information systems to ensure ongoing compliance and business outcomes. Monitor performance metrics (i.e. safety, technical, fleet, people & financial) and assist to arrest adverse trends and share best practices
- Lead and direct major projects such as Fleet Replacement, New Aircraft assessments. Establish frameworks to optimise Aircraft Leasing and Asset management, ensuring favourable economics
- Work with Group Commercial to leverage Virgin/ VARA’s volume to deliver economic and performance benefit - aircraft procurement, engine maintenance, airframe maintenance, component maintenances and service
- Lead VARA Maintenance Industrial Relations strategy and execution.
- Provide strong leadership as a part of the VARA Senior Leadership Team

**What you need to be successful**:

- A strong, visible, and charismatic leader of people with the communication and dynamic leadership skills required to motivate and lead a diverse and dispersed group of employees. Capable of motivating and ‘moving’ people in new directions.
- Commercial and Senior leadership experience in engineering, maintenance, technical operations, fleet or asset management within an airline or aviation organisation (10-15+)
- Strong analytical skills and financial/ commercial acumen
- Extensive technical acumen on large commercial aircraft types
- Excellent stakeholder, negotiation, and conflict management skills
- Ability to clearly articulate information in a diverse and complex business environment
- Meet CASA requirements to become an Accountable Manager for CASR42 and CASR145

Highly desirable
- Previously held CASA Accountable Manager roles in either or all CASR42, CASA145, CASR147 or CASR21
- Tertiary Qualification in Aeronautical Engineering (or similar) or Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer
