Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person with lived experience of substance use dependence, service use and recovery (identifies as a client of an alcohol and other drug service).
About the role
The Advanced Peer Worker (AOD) will utilise their lived experience of substance use dependence to provide recovery-oriented peer support, education, and information for clients and/or significant others, as well as increase client participation in the planning, delivery and evaluation of services provided by Metro North Mental Health - Alcohol and Drug Service (MNMH-ADS).

Within the context of the responsibilities described above under Key Accountabilities, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

- Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction principles and strength-based approach in working with clients who have substance use dependence
- Demonstrated well developed communication skills and ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries
- Demonstrated skills in computer literacy
- Demonstrated ability to advocate for the client and/or significant other perspective to identify service improvement
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver wellbeing education programs and groups to MNMH-ADS clients
- Demonstrated ability to share lived experience of substance use dependence recovery to assist clients and staff within the role.
