About the role
- The Advanced Peer Worker (APW) Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) Psychiatric Emergency Centre (PEC) will work with people presenting in mental health crisis, and/or their families and carers who are attending RBWH PEC.
- The APW will use their lived experience of mental illness and recovery to facilitate the development, planning and delivery of recovery support to people presenting in mental health crisis, and/or their families and carers who are attending RBWH PEC.
- The APW will use their lived experience of mental illness and recovery, to model recovery strategies to people presenting in mental health crisis, and/or their families and carers who are attending RBWH PEC.
- The APW will use their lived experience of mental illness and recovery to model recovery strategies that enable the RBWH PEC multidisciplinary team to develop a better understanding of the recovery framework to achieve the best outcomes for people admitted to RBWH PEC, and/or their families and carers.
- The APW will work in collaboration with the RBWH PEC multidisciplinary team to facilitate comprehensive assessment, treatment, and care in the context of recovery from a lived experience perspective.

The APW will provide direct support to people presenting in mental health crisis and/or their families and carers whilst at RBWH PEC and in transfer of care, if admitted, to the Mental Health Inpatient Unit.

- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of peer work principles, recovery principles, trauma informed care and strength-based approaches.
- Demonstrated well developed communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Demonstrated skills in computer literacy.
- Demonstrated ability to advocate for people presenting in mental health crisis.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver wellbeing education programs and groups.
- Demonstrated ability to share lived experience of recovery to assist people presenting in mental health crisis, families, carers and staff to develop their own understanding of recovery.
