Why the role matters

The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Peer Support Worker to support clients to identify and achieve set outcomes. Professional relationships will be established through shared lived experience.

This is a casual service-based role that could include 24-hour shift work (Days, afternoon, nights and weekends and public holidays. This position is based in Surry Hills, NSW. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Team Leader. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Crisis Level 1.

You will successfully- Support the implementation of the Homelessness Stream Model of Care that underpins services across the country and defines expectations and standards for those we serve, our partners and allies, and the Australian community.- Provide clients with a welcoming and responsive initial contact, and address urgent needs.- Establish professional relationships with clients that encourage self-determination and participation and provide support to improve their situation.- Support clients to achieve their identified goals/objectives per case plans (in accordance with TSA model of care).- Explore and assist in the creation of additional activities and opportunities for client engagement.- Advocate for the clients where necessary and have input into policy and procedures as is relevant.- Identify risks to clients, staff and TSA and bring to attention of relevant supervisor as soon as possible.- Identify service gaps and make recommendations for service delivery improvements.

You will have- A Working With Children Check.- A qualification or be working towards a qualification in Community Services, Mental Health, AOD or similar (desirable).- The willingness to obtain a Senior First Aid Certificate.
