**The Opportunity - Permanent, Full-Time Position**

The opportunity to join the Finance function at South32 as **Principal Accounting **and support the Team Lead in managing all internal financial accounting processes to meet monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and yearly reporting requirements. You will also provide leadership and expertise to ensure reporting of timely and accurate financial accounting information for the Group and JV Participants.

Reporting to the Manager Accounting Australia, key role responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to
- An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development
- Coordinate the period-end close process for Australian operations and provide support to Financial Accounting Analysts
- Management and control of the Balance Sheet for companies as allocated responsibility
- Actively engage and work with other functional areas (eg Tax, Treasury, GBS, Site based Finance Business Partners) to ensure accurate financial accounting information
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve and simplify various accounting activities occurring throughout the year
- Ensure that a fit-for-purpose internal control environment operates, complies with Group requirements, and is effective. Complete verification processes over internal controls as scheduled and/or requested
- Prepare, review, have audited (as applicable), and timely file all statutory financial statements for companies as allocated responsibility for
- Provide all necessary financial accounting information as requested by JV Participants (including cash calls)
- Ensure all group consolidated half-year and year-end financial accounting and reporting requirements are met
- Provide first-level accounting advice to site-based finance teams and engage with group on more technical and judgmental matters
- Liaise with external auditors in the provision of required information for half-year, year-end and entity financial statement purposes
- Execute the required capital management activities in conjunction with Treasury ensuring that legal entities can legally meet the capital management initiatives

** About You**
- Detailed understanding of finance processes and deliverables in a global corporate/ commercial environment
- Advanced understanding of accounting issues for mining operations
- Problem-solving and root-cause identification skills
- Passion for continuous organizational improvement
- Experience with financial ERP/ ECC systems (preferable)
- Experience in coaching and influencing teams
- Experience with South32 finance processes is highly desirable
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business needs and circumstances
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and facilitation skills
- Excellent skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning, and organizing

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
- CA/CPA equivalent accounting qualification
