The Professional and Ethical Standards Directorate is the professional standards unit of the department. Its role is to investigate allegations of misconduct made against employees and provide guidance and support to workplace managers in managing employee underperformance. It also leads a range of projects focused on improving the way complaints are managed.

Located within the Department’s Professional and Ethical Standards Directorate, the Staff Complaints Team works to improve complaint handling practice across the Education cluster. The team is responsible for leading empirically based and data driven business process reforms across the education cluster in relation to the management of staff complaints and grievances about workplace issues.

**About the role**

As a Principal Project Officer, you will be working with the Staff Complaints Team to oversee the development and effective delivery of a range of strategic projects and activities to improve the management of staff complaints within the Department of Education. This role requires a high-level of attention to detail to manage and resolve issues relating to project delivery, as well as an ability to effectively manage stakeholder relationships. As a leader and being part of an essential team within the Department of Education, your role will further include:

- Developing and coordinating professional learning activities to assist managers to handle staff complaints effectively.
- Providing expert advice and information to stakeholders on emerging issues and the management of complaints, with mitigation recommendations.
- Researching and analysing trends to make informed decisions for effective complaint management projects.
- Proactively collaborating with staff across the Department to collect data and create resources to assist managers to handle workplace grievances.
- Commitment to achieve team objectives and continuously identify opportunities for improvements.

**Essential requirements of the role**
- Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check)
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education

**Key knowledge and experience**
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
