**About the Role**

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) runs the Climate Council shoulder to shoulder with the CEO. They are responsible for overseeing the Council's internal operations including finance people and culture, IT and information systems, legal, risk and operations. They work closely with the CEO to deliver the organisation’s strategy and to ensure the Climate Council has the systems and processes to support our amazing staff and Councillors to do their best work. When the organisation is running efficiently and effectively the advocacy, communications, research and community teams can deliver maximum impact. Therefore, this role is vital to supporting the organisation as a whole to have maximum impact on tackling the climate crisis.

The COO is also the Climate Council Company Secretary, responsible for ensuring the organisation complies with its statutory obligations and advising the Climate Council Board on good practice in corporate governance. As COO and Company Secretary, the role works closely with the Board and Climate Council team to deliver on the Climate Council strategic priorities.

The Climate Council has grown significantly in recent years and there is opportunity to further scale our organisation. We are looking for someone to come into this role with passion and drive to work with the CEO to take the organisation to the next level.

The duties and responsibilities of this position involve:

- Translating vision into action by improving and developing organisational systems to empower our team to deliver our strategic priorities.
- Lead the organisation’s financial management.
- Attract, retain, develop and empower fantastic people to make a difference
- Oversee all operations and compliance including with regards to the Corporations Acts, other laws and regulations (e.g. related to fundraising and electoral activities) as well as managing corporate risk
- Support organised organisational governance to ensure effective running of board an annual general meetings

This position is a full-time permanent opportunity offering an attractive salary, based in Sydney or Melbourne offering a Hybrid working model.

**About you**
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar role with demonstrated exceptional people leadership, operational management, governance and engagement skills.
- A passion and experience to build and maintain highly engaged organisations and teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Proven understanding in operational facets of Finance, Human Resources, Compliance, Governance, Risk Management and IT.
- Well-developed experience in MS Office and Google suite.
- A passion for tackling the climate crisis.
