**About the Role**

This role as a Research Officer at The University of Melbourne presents a compelling opportunity to lead critical research in combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria, specifically in developing a novel therapeutic for community-acquired bacterial pneumonia through a CARB-X funded project. The position involves hands-on experimentation, collaboration within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, active engagement in teaching and mentoring, and contributing to impactful publications and presentations at various levels.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Plan and execute experiments crucial to the project, ensuring alignment with program timelines and milestones.
- Work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, maintaining detailed experiment records, and actively communicate research outcomes to project leads, managers, investigators, technical experts, and stakeholders.
- Contribute to teaching, training, and scientific mentoring, supervising junior research staff, and actively engaging in the dissemination of research findings through reports, manuscripts, and presentations at local, national, and international conferences.
- Undertake leadership responsibilities as requested, perform routine reviews of laboratory practice, and uphold Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) responsibilities in line with funding bodies and departmental standards.

**Who We Are Looking For**

You will also have:

- A Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related appropriate discipline.
- A clear ability to work independently and collaboratively with academic, administrative, and support staff.
- Ability to develop clear project plans, timelines, and effectively monitor project progress.
