**About the Role**
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Research Officer to join the research group of Professor Lachlan Coin at The Peter Doherty Institute for Immunity and Infection. As part of the NHMRC-funded project NITRIC, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the largest pediatric cardiac surgical intervention trial worldwide. By implementing cutting-edge genomic analyses and machine learning approaches, you will play a crucial role in identifying gene expression patterns associated with patient outcomes in congenital heart disease. Join our collaborative team and make a significant impact in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics, while developing your own independent program of research and contributing to leading specialist journals.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contribute to the development of a strong program of research in bioinformatics and multi-omics.
- Contribute to the development of machine-learning and AI-based technologies.
- Independently plan and carry out experiments focused on completion of research project aims.
- Be responsible for qualitative and statistical analysis of research data and to communicate this information to the Chief Investigators and collaborators.
**Who We Are Looking For**
You are a self-motivated individual who thrives on using initiative and working independently to prioritise tasks and meet project objectives within deadlines. Your excellent communication skills are evident through your ability to present research results, contribute to manuscript submissions, and interact effectively with a diverse research team.
You will also have:
- A PhD (awarded or near completion) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or Software Engineering, (or equivalent).
- Experience in working in bacterial genome sequence data, multi-omics and clinical data.
- Experience in managing bioinformatics workflows using pipeline frameworks.
- Experience in developing data visualisation approaches, particularly in genomics.
- Experience working in machine learning/AI technologies.
- Experience with Unix/Linux, and capacity to work with Python and R.
