**About the Organisation**:
The Hester Hornbrook Academy provides flexible education and learning options, including VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) and VETiS (Vocational Education and Training in Schools). In 2023 we will be offering VPC and the VM VCE Certificates. Recognising that mainstream education is not suitable for all young people, our programs are driven by the personal pursuits of students and integrate wellbeing and life skills approaches. Teachers,Youth Workers and Education Support Officers work together to support students. We have classes and outreach learning options for students who are young parents, currently in or leaving out of home care, experiencing homelessness, or who have been disengaged from mainstream education.

**About the Opportunity**:
Each HHA classroom is supported by a team comprised of a teacher, educational support staff and youth worker. The classroom team collaborates to provide a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. The team works in partnership with the students to understand and address the barriers to learning, to set and achieve academic pathways and other life goals. All staff bring different and overlapping skills and experience to the classroom to provide a holistic response to the students’ educational needs.

All roles within HHA will have a classroom allotment, this may include classroom instruction, management and supervision of students, assertive outreach, and involvement in our electives program.

The Leader of Diverse Learning is a member of the Hester Hornbrook Leadership team and is responsible for planning and implementation appropriate learning experiences for students with diverse learning needs. They will ensure high quality inclusive learning programs are implemented for all students. They will have the ability to diagnose and develop strategies for students with diverse learning needs with a focus on three areas; academic skills, social skills and skills for living. They will work with student who are new enrolments to Hester Hornbrook to ensure that their transition to our school is successful.

**Skills and experience**:

- Ability to administer diagnostic assessments (formal and informal) to identify individual learning needs and measure progress.
- Proven ability to maintain accurate records of student assessment and adjustments for the purposes of NCCD.
- Understanding of how to work with families/carers, school staff and external agencies to inform individual education and behaviour plans for students.
- Experience working with young people, LGBTQI young people and young people from diverse cultural backgrounds who have existing barriers to engaging in education.
- Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly, manage competing demands and to work as part of a team.
- Bachelor of Special Education or related discipline and a current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in the Microsoft suite of programs.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, including Child Safe Standards as they are relevant to a Senior Secondary School setting.
