**The Role**
As an EL1 in the team, you would have the opportunity to drive and support a strategic framework for policy design, including research, horizon scanning and monitoring of key workplace relations and work health and safety indicators. You may also have the opportunity to support Government decision-making on workplace relations policy matters, as well as cross-portfolio priorities such as the transition to net zero and the Employment White Paper.

As an EL1 in the team, you may be asked to supervise staff and act for the Director during periods of leave.

**Skills and Capabilities**

We are looking for someone with a strong policy-making background. You should be ready to work in a small, agile, fast-paced environment that is fun and supportive. Desired skills include:

- The ability to be flexible, highly motivated and contribute to the delivery of a challenging workload under often tight deadlines, including by driving work and supporting other team members during periods of uncertainty and short timeframes.
- An ability to think strategically, including synthesising complex information and identifying effective solutions.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to contribute and lead policy development.
- Ability to clearly explain complex concepts, ideas, and arguments to a range of audiences, including senior leadership.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong liaison skills, including an ability to quickly develop productive working relationships with staff at all levels, particularly with peers and senior management.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with others at all levels.
- Ability to coach junior staff to complete their work.

A background in workplace relations is not a necessity.

**The Opportunity**
This position is available to Ongoing Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and APS employees as a temporary transfer at level or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 6 months.
