The opportunity we have available

The section is looking for an Assistant Director with legal policy and legislative experience who is ready for an exciting challenge. You will play a central part in a small, enthusiastic and energetic team. Working closely with the Queensland Government and colleagues across our branch, you will lead policy and planning for the improvement and expansion of Norfolk Island legislation to support service delivery by Queensland.

In close collaboration with Queensland agencies and the Territories legislation and policy teams, you will identify, plan and implement changes to laws. This will include planning and executing community engagement on proposed changes, preparation of drafting instructions, developing explanatory materials, supporting decision making by Ministers and Senior Executives in both the Australian and Queensland Governments, and preparing documentation for consideration by the Governor-General in Council.

You will play a key role in liaison with the Norfolk Island Taskforce in the Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet and Queensland policy and service delivery agencies.

We are happy to consider flexible and part-time working arrangements. The work is diverse, challenging, fast-paced and involves engagement with a range of stakeholders at all levels. There will be regular opportunities for development. Travel to Canberra and Norfolk Island will likely be required.

What will you do?

The role includes work across many aspects of state services, including education, business support, healthcare, biosecurity and environmental regulation, and the justice system.

In this work, you will lead a number of projects to improve and expand legislation supporting state-level service delivery to Norfolk Island. Projects will involve:
- preparing policy papers, briefs and submissions to gain policy approval for and implement amendment and introduction of laws to enable delivery of state-level services.-
- developing drafting instructions and working with the Office of Parliamentary Counsel and Queensland agency legal teams to settle draft laws.-
- building and managing strong working relationships internally and across Australian and Queensland government agencies to facilitate collaboration and deliver high quality outcomes.- **Eligibility requirements**
