**Reform and External Relations**

**Reform and External Relations Directorate (RER)**:
RER creates the policy and funding conditions to improve educational outcomes for all NSW learners. We represent the Department nationally in policy forums on schools and skills.

We drive the development of national policy, funding negotiations and partnerships with the Commonwealth and other States, across schools and vocational educational and training, and work closely with colleagues in our Early Childhood Outcomes division to support lifelong learning. In doing so, we play a pivotal role in advancing education on behalf of NSW learners.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in and influence a range of policy priorities which shape our government school system and State and national education agenda. There are three teams in our Directorate:
**National Policy Reform Team**:
Our purpose is to partner with the education community and lead on the development of national policy for early childhood and schools. We lead on key business processes for the establishment of analysis and strategic advice to the Minister and Government.

By developing policy positions, undertaking stakeholder consultation, and coordinating major national meetings, we ensure optimal and effective contribution to the Department’s objectives and strategic priorities at state and national levels.

**National Funding Reform Team**:
Equity and excellence in education is woven throughout our work. We drive negotiation on funding mechanisms, multilateral and bilateral agreements and partnerships with the Commonwealth for early childhood education and schools. The team also manages and administers existing funding agreements between NSW and other jurisdictions for schooling.

**National Skills Reform Team**:
We are about making a difference for young people by giving them the opportunity to get the skills needed for a positive future after school.

When you join the team, you will be contributing to national policy debates and helping to develop NSW's positions for negotiations with the Commonwealth and other states and territories on national skills reforms. The team also provides strategic advice to the Minister and the NSW Government on national funding arrangements for skills.
