**About the Organisation**

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. **About the Role**

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly motivated team in shaping the future of an inner urban municipality by delivering new municipal wide and place-based strategies, including structure plans, policies and planning scheme amendments.

The Principal Planner will work with the Head of City Policy and team to develop and deliver a comprehensive policy and project program and mentor the team.

**Duties**:

- Develop land use and development strategies, policies and guidelines
- Translate urban planning policy and strategy into statutory frameworks
- Prepare and process amendments to the Port Phillip Planning Scheme
- Provide professional and timely advice to Council and the community
- Undertake community consultation and represent Council at external forums

**Skills and Experience**

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A relevant tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning and/or a closely related profession.
- Experience in leading or mentoring professional staff and contributing to a collegiate work environment.
- Demonstrated experience at a senior level in delivering urban strategy, urban design and policy projects in an environment of balancing complex issues and competing priorities, and with an understanding of a local government setting.
- A thorough understanding of the Victorian planning system, the Victoria Planning Provisions, and the potential to develop and implement planning policy / strategy through statutory mechanisms.
- Proven ability to think strategically, analyse complex situations, develop creative solutions and achieve outcomes that advance desired Council outcomes.
- Highly developed skills in communication of complex ideas, community consultation and facilitation of stakeholders; and in negotiating quality outcomes.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to deliver high quality outputs on budget and within specified timeframes.
