**About Us**
The Coroners Court of Victoria (CCOV) has three functions.
**1. Independently investigating deaths and fires**.
Certain deaths and fires are reported to Coroners for independent investigation. Their investigations seek to establish the facts - when, where, how and why the death or fire happened.
**2. Reducing preventable deaths.**
Wherever possible, the Coroner will suggest ways to prevent similar deaths or fires by making well informed and practical recommendations, based on the evidence before them.
**3. Promoting public health and safety and the administration of justice.**
CCOV regularly reports on data and trends regarding preventable deaths in Victoria to help inform public health responses.
**About the Role**
The Coroners Prevention Unit (CPU) is a specialist service for Coroners created to strengthen their prevention role and provide them with expert assistance in their death investigations. CPU staff include clinicians, public health practitioners and data specialists whom Coroners can engage to assist at any point in their investigations.
The Manager, Health and Medical Investigation Team (HMIT) leads a team of medical professionals who assist Coroners in their investigations and review clinical evidence to identify contributing factors in complex healthcare-related deaths.
The primary role of the Manager, HMIT includes, but is not limited to:
- Supervising developing and supporting HMIT case investigators to ensure sustainable workloads, and excellent and efficient service delivery.
- Reviewing medical, legal and health policy documents to identify the need for and nature of further investigation of health care-related deaths.
- Drafting and providing complex advice in relation to matters referred by Coroners.
**About You**
We are looking for a dynamic leader with excellent communication skills and a commitment to public health and safety with:
- Significant experience in clinical practice in one or more clinical speciality areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of how systems of care impact on patient safety.
- The ability to critically examine information to produce informed written advice and recommendations.
The role requires the successful applicant to be a Qualified Registered Nurse Division 1, with current Registration with Nurses Board of Victoria.
