**The Opportunity**

Do you love working in collaborative teams to solve tricky problems? Are you interested in contributing to new ways of developing public policy? PM&C’s Policy Projects and Taskforce Office (PPTO) is seeking talented and energetic leaders to undertake complex public policy projects on some of the highest priority issues facing Australia.

The PPTO uses structured problem-solving methodology to achieve rapid, iterative policy solutions and operates with a flat, flexible structure that sees staff move between projects based on skills requirements of the project. Recently the PPTO took responsibility for the Long Term Insights Briefing team for the APS, and is leading a capability uplift project on building futures and foresighting skills and expertise across the APS.

The role(s) provides exciting opportunities to work on some of the most stimulating and challenging areas of public policy and make a difference. PPTO is a highly engaged, high trust and performance-based team with strong values. Our EL1s are accountable for building and maintaining strong engagement and performance in their teams as part of the PPTO leadership, and have considerable strategic autonomy to shape their work. We value diversity of experience and thought, engaging with robust debate and respecting different perspectives.

PPTO has three core functions:

- Delivering strategic policy projects to support PM&C or broader APS clients - developing strategic advice for Government, often on complex reforms, big picture strategic challenges and transformative policy innovations.
- Supporting the delivery of key Government priorities, including the work of taskforces and policy teams, through consulting-style strategic support, structured problem-solving approaches, futures thinking and workshop facilitation.
- Uplifting capability in PM&C and across the APS in our areas of expertise, including strategic policy project methodologies, futures thinking, visual policy communications and best practices in agile project management.

A merit pool may be established and used to fill the same or similar vacancies for 18 months from the date of advertising.
- Be inquisitive, creative and flexible, willing to put in thinking time, take on feedback, iterate and think again.
- Have the skills to develop and nurture new relationships in the pursuit of sound policy outcomes, while easily adapting to new working environments.
- Have sound judgement with the ability to be persuasive and work with senior stakeholders across the APS - seize opportunities to pitch their ideas.
- Have an ability to engage with complex problems, despite ambiguity and develop solutions in a structured, logical way, especially in strategy or policy development contexts.
- Have demonstrated experience using qualitative and quantitative data to inform evidence-based policy and working knowledge of relevant data sources to inform work.
- Have a breadth or depth of experience in the policy making process, with a strong understanding of Cabinet processes and writing styles.
- Have ability to design and facilitate strategic thinking workshops, lead group discussions, run training sessions or otherwise support collaborative team activities.
- Have experience working on programs and initiatives through an iterative, hypothesis-driven process, potentially in a consulting, taskforce, review, strategy development, policy innovation, organisational reform, workshop facilitation or similar role.
- Have experience managing projects and an understanding of project methodology as well as strong organisational skills and demonstrated project delivery.
- Have experience leading people effectively and building inclusive, cohesive teams that build the capability of individuals and deliver quality products.
