**The Role**
This is an exciting time to join the Safety and Compensation Branch. We have multiple non-ongoing positions (6-12 months) and ongoing roles available for a dedicated Silicosis Taskforce. We are seeking outstanding [APS5, APS6, EL1 and EL2] staff to drive national policy reform on silicosis.

This is a unique opportunity to work with Commonwealth, state and territory government officials, employer groups and unions to drive reforms that will have a meaningful impact, as well as implement innovative practices and processes in the branch.

**Skills and Capabilities**
APS 5 Policy Position
- Working independently and as part of the policy team in accordance with team priorities
- Analysing and providing advice on complex policy problems
- Preparing policy and briefing products to support the Executive and Minister’s Office, with support from supervisor
- Contributing to the management of policy projects with support from senior staff
- Assisting with the administration and coordination of policy, team and branch processes.

APS 6 Policy Position
- Preparing research and advice to inform policy development
- Analysing and providing advice on complex policy problems
- Preparing policy and briefing products to support the Executive and Minister’s Office, with support from supervisor
- Liaising with both internal and external stakeholders on work health and safety (WHS) policy matters, as appropriate
- Liaising with both internal and external stakeholders on policy matters
- Contributing to the management of policy projects with support from senior staff.

EL1 Policy Position
- Building and sustaining productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop considered policy positions
- Developing government submissions, including Cabinet briefings and associated briefings for the Minister and Senior Executive, as well as other policy and briefing products
- Managing one or more projects using well-developed strategic planning and organisational skills to deliver results to a high standard and in a timely manner
- Supervising staff, including managing performance.

EL2 Policy Position
- Possess high level communication and influencing skills
- Be able to lead, manage and develop a team in a dynamic environment
- Anticipate and establish priorities, monitor progress and work to deliver outcomes
- Will have the ability to work in partnership with other policy and legal areas to support high quality advice to our Minister and Executive
- Work independently on complex policy matters, and build strong working relationships with our key stakeholders
- Actively collaborate with other directors and contribute to the leadership of the branch.

**Skills and capabilities we need**

Prior policy experience and/or an understanding of the WHS legal framework or workplace relations would be highly regarded but is not essential. We are seeking enthusiastic, curious, and motivated individuals with the following skills and capabilities:
APS 5-6
- Delivering high quality, well-structured communication that is tailored to the audience
- Strong research and analysis skills to draw accurate conclusions
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team/across teams to achieve results
- Good organisational skills and the ability to deliver projects within a dynamic environment.

EL1
- Ability to identify, engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify policy linkages, facilitate cooperation and partnerships, gain feedback and support and/or input into relevant policy reform
- Sound analytical capabilities and judgment on policy and costings matters, with an ability to identify practical solutions to challenges while factoring in risks and the broader strategic context
- Well-developed project management skills and abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to provide clear and accurate advice to internal and external stakeholders.

EL2
- Strong leadership skills, including the demonstrated ability to support or provide effective leadership in building team capabilities and culture to effectively manage complex and sensitive issues
