Toowoomba Grammar School is seeking a highly motivated and passionate House Manager to join our boarding house team and play a crucial role in the care and wellbeing of the boarding students, helping them to feel at home and thrive in their academic and personal lives. Boarding staff are, in effect, surrogate parents who must provide care, counselling and discipline.

**About Toowoomba Grammar School**

Toowoomba Grammar School was founded in 1875 and is a member school of the Great Public Schools Association of Queensland (GPS). It is an independent non-denominational day and boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of close to 1,200 from Preparatory to Year 12. There are approximately 300 boarders in the School coming predominantly from throughout Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory. The School’s campus covers 20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre of Toowoomba.

It is our vision that our boys will graduate from TGS with the skills to be independent, well-balanced, and successful in life. That they are boys of good character who respond well to challenges and achieve life-long wellbeing. TGS focuses on the wellbeing of each boy in order to develop his good character so he can flourish as an individual, contribute to society and lead a meaningful life.

**About the Position**

The House Manager provides supervision and care for around 50 male boarders ranging from year level 8 - 12. The House Manager supports the Head of Boarding House through management of the operational and administrative responsibilities of the boarding house, ensuring a smooth running of the house.

The House Manager will have the capacity to establish trusting connections with individual boarders and their families, to build that all-important relationship with home. It is expected that the House Manager will implement the routines and protocols that underpin living in a residential setting to ensure each boy is both safe and happy while in boarding.

House Managers operate on daily spilt shifts (6:00am - 9:00am and 3:00pm - 8:00pm) Monday - Friday and during shifts, the House Manager may access meals in the School’s Dining Hall with their House.

No supervision duty is required during school holiday periods.

**About you**:
You will be highly regarded for your ability to demonstrate authenticity, understand and work co-operatively with adolescent boys, have a passion for working with, and supporting the wellbeing and safety of young people as a mentor and a support person in a supervisory capacity.

You will possess the ability to provide a nurturing environment for young boys and enjoy assisting in the morning, before school routine. Your positivity and ability to motivate will be contagious and important to your ability to be a positive role model for the boys in the imparting expectations of readiness, and responsibility.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Providing a safe and supportive living environment for students
- Supporting students’ academic and personal growth through guidance and mentorship
- Building positive relationships with students, parents and staff
- Planning and leading recreational activities and outings
- Assisting with the smooth running of the boarding house from a day to day basis
- Responding to emergency situations in a professional and prompt manner

**Requirements**:

- A Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a boarding house
- Experience in a boarding, school or other educational environment, desirable
- ABSA Duty of Care Workshops (may be completed during onboarding)
- Current first aid qualifications and Blue Card
