Toowoomba Grammar School is seeking a highly motivated and passionate House Parent to join our Boarding House Team. As a House Parent, you will play a crucial role in the care and wellbeing of the youngest of our boarding students, helping them to feel at home and thrive in their academic and personal lives.

**About Toowoomba Grammar School**

Toowoomba Grammar School was founded in 1875. It is an independent non-denominational day and boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of 1,200 from Preparatory to Year 12. There are approximately 300 boarders in the School coming predominantly from throughout Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory. The School’s campus covers 20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre of Toowoomba.

It is our vision that our boys will graduate from TGS with the skills to be independent, well-balanced, and successful in life. That they are boys of good character who respond well to challenges and achieve life-long wellbeing.

**About the Position**

The House Parent is a full-time permanent position providing supervision and care for around 30 - 40 male boarders aged between approximately 10 and 14 years. The House Parent will be on duty five days each week for the duration of the school year (approximately 38 weeks per year) and every second weekend during term time. No supervision duty is required during school holiday periods.

This is a live-in position during school term time, with accommodation provided in a self-contained one-bedroom apartment with internal ensuite and laundry. The House Parent may access meals available in the School’s Dining Hall.

The School recognises that the House Parent may be of mature age and accompanied by a spouse/partner who is prepared to become involved in the boarding life of the School. Boarding staff are, in effect, surrogate parents who must provide care, counselling and discipline.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Providing a safe and supportive living environment for students
- Supporting students’ academic and personal growth through guidance and mentorship
- Building positive relationships with students, parents and staff
- Planning and leading recreational activities and outings
- Assisting with the smooth running of the boarding house from a day to day basis
- Responding to emergency situations in a professional and prompt manner

**Requirements**:

- A Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a boarding house
- Experience in a boarding, school or other educational environment, desirable
- Active Duty ABSA course
- Duty of Care - Book 1, desirable
- Current first aid qualifications and Blue Card

Teaching qualifications/registration may be an advantage but are not a pre-requisite for this position. For a full Position Description please refer to the attachment below.
