**Your role**

This role offers a unique opportunity to improve lives of Aboriginal people in NSW. You'll play a vital role in shaping and sharing success stories, progress updates, and reform work across various platforms.

This is a chance to work on innovative and creative communication strategies, collaborate with diverse stakeholders and contribute to culturally safe services, and inclusive decision-making.

This role will give you the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that will influence positive outcomes for Aboriginal families and communities.

**What you’ll do**

As a Communications Officer you will be part of the Transforming Aboriginal Outcomes (TAO) communications team that sits within the Campaigns, Strategy and Events Unit. You will work alongside the TAO division.

TAO is addressing the causes of Aboriginal overrepresentation in DCJ systems in NSW and improve the department’s services and programs to achieve meaningful, positive outcomes for Aboriginal people.

TAO helps DCJ work towards eliminating racism, provide culturally safe services, partner with Aboriginal organisations and communities, strengthen the Aboriginal community-controlled sector, improve data sharing, and involve Aboriginal people in decision-making.

The Communications Officer role will work with various units in the TAO division to collect stories and updates that showcase successes and progress in DCJ’s policies, programs, and priorities. We share these communications internally and externally via channels such as the intranet, newsletters, social media, events, and targeted stakeholder engagement.

You will produce communications content across a variety of formats to deliver the department’s communications strategy.

You will have responsibilities which include (but not limited to):

- Drafting a range of communications content and materials to provide quality, accurate and relevant information to stakeholders, including Aboriginal families and communities.
- Implementing and coordinating communications activities to support DCJ policy and operational priorities.
- Communicating key messages relating to initiatives and service delivery.
- Delivering communications projects including developing logistics, budgets, resource and project plans, and reporting.
- Undertaking research and analysis to inform the development of communications strategies, including the identification of key target audiences for DCJ communications programs.
- Filming and editing videos for internal channels and social media.

**What we’re looking for**

We’re looking for a communications expert who has a passion for developing innovative and creative communications materials.
- demonstrated skills in developing and delivering high quality and effective communication strategies and plans to support the department’s business objectives
- experience working with a wide range of stakeholders
- ability to work with key suppliers including graphic designers, videographers, and printers
- experience in planning and project managing communications activities
- strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare documents for various audiences and purposes.
