The Role

The Harry Butler Institute is one of the three Murdoch University institutes that bring together leading researchers from across the Colleges to deliver world class multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary translational research that benefits government, industry and the community. The Harry Butler Institute brings together all of the disciplines that contribute to the coexistence of business and biodiversity in order that society can create maximum value for the community whilst simultaneously safeguarding the environment.

The primary objective of the Harry Butler Institute is to give expression and recognition to the legacy of Dr Harry Butler in world-class science, education and environmental management ‘you can have conservation with development’ (Harry Butler, 2015). The Harry Butler Institute champions a research space where community, business and biodiversity can co-exist; and where our efforts integrate and balance the needs and aspirations of all three sectors. Our research programs ensure the continuation of Harry Butler’s outstanding environmental outcomes, based on excellence in both scientific research and industry practice.

The Research Fellow will sit within the Harry Butler Institute but will actively engage with academics from across all Colleges and Institutes of the university.

Selection Criteria
- Completion of a PhD in computer vision and machine learning in a highly related field, or equivalent qualification, and experience in small object tracking.
- Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction only, exercise initiative in undertaking responsibilities and work effectively as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to engage in high quality independent research.
- Demonstrated capacity to generate research funding (either independently or as part of a research team).
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to successfully supervise honours, postgraduate and HDR students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary approaches to curriculum and pedagogy.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary and collegial team.
- Demonstrated high levels of written and oral communication skills in English.
