**Your Opportunity**

We have an opportunity for a National Manager of Policy, Advocacy & Government Relations to join our Practice, Evidence, and Impact team This is an incredibly flexible opportunity and could be well suited to someone looking for 3-4 days or 5 shorter days. The hiring manager is happy to consider non-traditional working hours/flexible arrangements.

Reporting to the Executive of Practice, Evidence, and Impact, you will be responsible for the development, articulation, and communication of the organisation’s public policy and advocacy priorities, contributing to our goal of ending homelessness, and ensuring people and communities in need can thrive.

This is a senior leadership position with overall responsibility for developing and leading key programs of work for Mission Australia. Building strong government relations strategy and function will be a key focus of this position.

**Your Key Responsibilities**
- Prioritise and prepare evidence-based policy positions and submissions to governments
- Secure organisational agreement for policy priorities aligned with organisational strategy, including from Executives and the Board
- Provide high level advice and briefings to Mission Australia’s leaders engaging with governments, peak bodies, the sector and other stakeholders
- Contribute to building and managing key Federal and Start/Territory Government relationships including with Ministers, Parliamentarians, their staff, and public servants in relevant departments
- Amplify Mission Australia’s policy and advocacy positions through effective coordination with the media and communications teams
- Develop and lead advocacy strategies to influence public policy in our priority areas
- Analyse complex information to present clear strategic positions and recommendations

**Requirements for Success**

With a significant understanding of the not-for-profit sector and the role it can play in social change, you will be confident in developing policy positions and in preparing and implementing government relations strategies and advocacy activities. Other requirements include:

- Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline.
- Involvement or experience in homelessness and/or other areas of social policy relevant to MA priorities.
- Capacity to collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in a challenging and dynamic environment.
- Proven experience in policy development and preparing and implementing strategic advocacy activities.
- Excellent writing skills and a proven ability to prepare submissions, briefings, and other complex documents in clear and concise language.
- Strong ability to synthesise and analyse complex information and simplify for presentation.
- High level facilitation and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in developing and implementing government relations strategies, with proven ability to effectively communicate policy within a government context.
- Sound knowledge of government policy and program processes and understanding of the political context of government decision making.
- Positive and strong government stakeholder networks, or ability to quickly build and maintain networks.
- Team management experience.
