**Challis Recruitment is currently recruiting for experienced Emergency Registrars to join our clients in a major metropolitan health service in Victoria.**

**THE HOSPITAL**
This hospital is classified as the major metropolitan health service caring for a community of 300,000 people which increases to 400,000 people during the peak tourism season between December and March. Their current bed capacity is at 454. The vision of this hospital is to provide exceptional health and community care. Their Emergency Department sees over 75,000 patients per year. Their admission rate is approx. 40% with high acuity presentations. There are two sites associated with this hospital and currently over 37 consultants employed across both of those sites including 3 x ACEM examiners. This hospital has a strong education program and is accredited by ACEM for 24 months along with having an affiliation with the Monash University Medical School. This makes this role and ideal location to develop your career further in Emergency Medicine. Both sites are well staffed by FACEMs, Trainees, HMOs and Interns. The major ED department has accredited supervisors for ACEM EM Certificate and Diploma.

**THE POSITION**
The successful Emergency Registrars, PGY3 or above would be experienced medical practitioners who are able to work within a multidisciplinary team. Their performances will be supervised and monitored by full time and fractional specialists to ensure you are entrusted with responsibilities commensurate with your capabilities and in accordance with delegated clinical privileges that may vary from site to site.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES AND DUTIES**

**CLINICAL PERFORMANCE**
- Ensure familiarity with the expected standards of performance in the role and actively contribute to own personal development.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of and adherence to standards and legislation relevant to the role (such as Child Safe Standards, Aged Care Act ect) and actively promote compliance to any such standards in legislation.
- Complete all mandatory training by the due dates.
- Undertake any additional tasks as requested that reasonably fall within the scope of the position and classification;
- Recognise, respond, and escalate changes in the patient’s condition.
- Provide medical care of a defined group of patients under direct of their Senior Medical Staff; for inpatients this is denoted by allocation according to a roster developed by the Clinical Director or Unit Head.
- Ensure treating specialist is appraised of all significant changes in any patient under their care.
- Supervise and teach residence, interns, and medical students in the treatment of allocated patients.
- Proactively deal with Patient Safety, Clinical Risk, Quality Improvement, Customer Relations, and Infection Control issues as they relate to patients under their care: including the specific notification of all incidents or near misses relating to patients under their care.
- Support the development of evidence-based medicine approach with your patients.
- Support the development of relevant research activities; and ensure that all proposed research proposals are forwarded to the Human Research Ethics Committee for pre-approval.
- Attend and actively participate in service meetings and clinical audit activities convened by the CD or UH.

**KEY SELECTION CRITERIA**
- PGY3 or above
- Eligible for General, Limited, or Provisional registration with AHPRA
- Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence-based practice.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, high-volume work environment.
- A commitment to professional client service

**DESIRABLE**
- Teaching skills
- Critical care medicine experience
- Acute medicine experience
- ACEM Trainee or suitable to commence training within 12 months.
- Non ACEM trainees wanting to complete EMC and EMD
