**SUNSHINE HOSPITAL** - **Paediatric Emergency Medicine Registrar**

Sunshine Children’s Emergency is an **accredited training site** (by the RACP and ACEM) for Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM). Our registrar positions are suitable for trainees in general paediatrics, paediatric emergency medicine and general emergency medicine.

Sunshine Hospital Children’s Emergency manages approximately 30,000 annual presentations by children (under 18 years of age). The ED has undergone significant redevelopment over the last 2 years. A separate and specially designed area for paediatric emergency medicine. The successful applicant(s) will assess and manage paediatric patients and supervise more junior members of the medical team. The PEM registrar roster includes daytime, evening, weekend and night shifts. **This position lends itself to job sharing.**

Notable features of the department and position include:

- 17 paediatric emergency specialists on staff
- Specialist cover 7 days/week
- Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s inpatient and outpatient paediatric services with potential for combined appointments
- Teaching and supervision of residents and interns is a key part of the role
- Multi-modal teaching provided in person and via video-links
- Cultural & economic diversity of Melbourne's western suburbs
- Potential for combined appointment with Werribee Mercy Hospital paediatric service

Required Experience
- one year paediatric experience for paediatric (RACP) trainees.
- one year emergency experience for emergency medicine (ACEM) trainees.

Desirable experience
- APLS Course or equivalent
- 6 months neonatal unit experience
- 6 months paediatric or adult ICU experience
- 6 months paediatric retrieval experience
- Specialist Exams completed: FRACP (Paediatric) or primary FACEM

Protected non-clinical time and involvement in administration, education and/or research is encouraged.

Research Opportunities
- Research program linked with the Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative (PREDICT) Network, University of Melbourne and Notre Dame University.
- Paediatric campus of the Joseph Epstein Centre for Emergency Medicine Research

Active and established teaching programs in place including
- quarterly one-day PLS course
- weekly teaching sessions
- weekly radiology review sessions
- paediatric simulation in a dedicated simulation centre and in situ simulation within the ED
- involvement in the regional teaching program in paediatric emergency medicine in Melbourne
