The Head of Communications, Australia is responsible for the development and implementation of all external and internal communications strategies which support HSBC’s corporate brand and business objectives in Australia. You will also be a key member of the Executive Management Team in Australia, providing general management support and advice to the CEO, Board and other Executives.

The core focus of the role is around the reputation management and positioning for HSBC in Australia, delivering an integrated communications strategy, supporting the public affairs strategy, social media and digital strategy aligned to HSBC’s core themes and strategic imperatives in Australia. As a member of a globally-connected team, you will work seamlessly with the Asia-Pacific and global communications teams to execute a cohesive and powerful communications strategy in Australia.

**Your main responsibilities will include**:
**Accountabilities for business, customers and stakeholders**
- Deliver a strong and powerful corporate narrative and communications strategy for Australia & New Zealand, aligned to our commercial imperatives and global themes.
- Lead the ongoing design and implementation of the media and communications strategy
- Elevate and modernise the communications capabilities of senior stakeholders. This will include digital readiness and the use of social media to improve the reach and impact of HSBC’s narrative and storytelling in Australia.
- Actively safeguard HSBC’s reputation, including in-depth understanding and risk escalation of business and customer trends that could impact our reputation and performance in Australia.
- Anticipate, identify and manage issues that may have an impact our reputation and provide insight, analysis and counsel to the Australian Executive Committee, Board and CEO.
- Constantly stay abreast of new communications skills, tools and platforms.
- Overseeing management responsibilities for New Zealand communications in identifying and management issues that may have an impact to our reputation and provide insight, analysis and counsel to the NZM CEO.

**Leadership and teamwork**
- Lead, coach and develop a team of communications professionals with strong talent management and succession planning in-mind.
- Create an ambitious and globally connected team environment for talent in Australia
- Work seamlessly and collaboratively with Asia-Pacific and global Communication team as well as other key stakeholders in Marketing, HR and Sustainability.

Requirements

**To be successful in this role, you will need**:

- Significant media, communications or media relations experience developed in politics, the media and/or PR, coupled with strong business & community networks
- Excellent people management, interpersonal, strategic planning, influencing, negotiation, project management skills and ability to manage ambiguities and high pressure situations
- Credibility with senior executives with strong customer centricity, stakeholder management and influencing skills
- You have an in-depth demonstrated understanding of the media with a large portfolio of placed stories, excellent writing and liaison skills and a strong network of media contacts.
- Experience successfully developing strategic goals into actionable projects, strategies, and implementation plans, including managing multiple, and sometimes competing priorities
- Demonstrate strong external and internal perspective of the issues facing the business/country from factors such as market trends, customer insights, new products and innovations, competitor activities and campaigns
- Proven experience in complex, global and regulated issues/crisis management
- Extensive experience in creative communications development, thought leadership, and associated measurement strategies
