As a Building Inspector, you will provide effective and prompt building inspection and compliance resources for the Council, the community and to Council staff to mitigate risk to life and property.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Be involved in the preparation of policies and procedures relating to the implementation and enforcement of building legislation and supporting documentation, other relevant Acts and Regulations, including Council's Local Laws
- To support the Municipal Building Surveyor in building inspection tasks, as well as investigating building compliance matters in line with Council's enforcement policies.
- Provide advice to individuals, community groups, developers, consultants, the public, Council and Council staff on the process of ensuring compliance in particular building and planning legislation, other relevant legislation, including Council's Local Laws
- Carry out mandatory building inspections effectively and promptly, document findings accurately and report results to the Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Attend emergency situations regarding buildings impacted by fire, fallen trees or storm damage and provide direction to emergency services in relation to structural damage and 'make-safe' or protection works required.
- Carry out inspections of 'high risk' issues such as Swimming pools, spas and barriers effectively and promptly, document findings accurately and report results to the Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Prepare general correspondence such as letters, Building Infringement Notices, Building Notices / Orders or Prosecution Briefs as needed or as directed by the Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Where required attend Courts of competent jurisdiction, in particular the Magistrates' Court, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal or Building Appeals Board and provide evidence as required by the Court.
- Undertake administrative tasks associated with enforcement / compliance matters, i.e. documentation of evidence, updating of enforcement case management system and other administrative duties as required.

**Requirements and Qualifications**:

- Building Inspector Registered
- Building practitioner qualifications (current registration with Building Practitioners Board as a Building Inspector (Limited) as a minimum) with relevant experience in the management and processing of building and planning compliance and/or local law (or other similar) enforcement procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in the investigation of building and planning related matters and/or similar regulatory environment.
- Interpretation of legislation, policies, precedents within the field of expertise
- Plan and organise work of supervised employees or contractors, within available resources and timetable, implementation of personnel policies may be required
- Understanding of the organisation's long term goals and context of the position's function in the organisational context
- Red Card
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
