**Who we are**
People Division ensures the department has a strong and well-supported workforce with the capability and capacity to deliver on the Government’s climate change and energy agenda and protect Australia’s environment and water resources. The division also ensures that information about the department’s work in support of this agenda is both available to, and understood by, the Australian public.

The Work Health and Safety and Wellbeing (WHS) function operates under a ‘Hub and Spoke’ model - recognising the critical and interdependent nature of each team within the function to achieving successful health, safety, and wellbeing solutions, keeping our people safe, and ensuring that safety is at the heart of all we do.

The WHS Governance Section (the hub) partners with the business to understand our unique and diverse health, safety and wellbeing needs to design, implement and support a purpose built WHS Management System and WHS Information System that places our people at the heart of everything we do and enables a positive health and safety culture. We coach and guide our people on WHS matters and provide WHS advice and support for each division.

The WHS Operations Section (the spoke) is responsible for ensuring the department safeguards the health, safety and wellbeing of the department and its people, by supporting our leadership to be safety leaders and promote a positive safety culture, responding to emerging issues and supporting operational areas.

Our WHS Operations team are the ‘boots on the ground’ who play a pivotal role in enabling the department to have a consistent and unified approach to implementing WHS by providing oversight, guidance, and support to front-line staff and managers.

**The Job**
The department currently has several exciting new roles as part of our approach to continuing to mature WHS. Each role is joining a large and dynamic WHS function who are passionate about safety and who support a diverse department with a unique risk profile. The roles on offer are:
**EL1 - WHS Assistant Director Audit & Assurance** - As the WHS Assistant Director Audit & Assurance, you will report to the Director WHS Governance. You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

- designing the enterprise wide WHS audit & assurance plan for the department,
- delivering Tier 2 & 3 audit and assurance activities across the department,
- managing audit and assurance activity outcomes, including monitoring and follow up of corrective actions and compliance with the department’s WHS Management System,
- reporting on audit & assurance actives as required, including to the department’s WHS Committee and Audit Committee,
- delivering and supporting initiatives outlined in the department’s WHS Strategy 2023-2026.

To be successful in this role, you will have proven and significant expertise in delivering contemporary WHS audit and assurance activities.

**EL1 - WHS Assistant Director Risk Management** - As the WHS Assistant Director Risk Management, you will report to the Director WHS Governance. You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

- leading the validation and management of the department’s fatal WHS risk profile and proactively working with stakeholders to mature our risk approach (leading the current fatal WHS risk project),
- establishing and maintaining the WHS Technical Support team, comprised of targeted external technical specialists to inform on our WHS program,
- effectively designing and implementing controls to enable better risk and compliance outcomes,
- monitoring and reporting of WHS risks across the department,
- developing the enterprise WHS framework and supporting standards for the department’s diverse WHS risk profile.

To be successful in this role, you will have proven and significant operational risk expertise and a deep knowledge of control testing methodologies across key business processes.
