Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia’s Family Violence Stream provides a wide range of services around the country to support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer refuge, children’s and parenting services, counselling, support, men’s programs, accommodation and advice to women and children who are experiencing, or who have experienced, family violence. The Alexis Family Violence Response Model (A-FVRM) aims to reduce family violence for women and children and to achieve responsibility and accountability amongst FV offenders. The AFRM also seeks to reduce secondary victimization and decrease the incidence of family violence through interagency cooperation and collaboration.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Specialist Family Violence Practitioner to provide a specialist response to repeat and high risk cases of family violence, as identified through Victoria Police L17s from within Division 5. The aim of the A-FVRM is achieved by providing a coordinated cross sectorial, multi-agency integrated response to families who are having repeated contact with Police and services due to family violence. In this manner, the A-FVRM aims to identify and respond to family violence as soon as possible after an incident. Furthermore, the A-FVRM provides a whole of family response that works towards reducing risk to women and children and holding perpetrators of family violence to account. The Alexis
- Specialist Family Violence Practitioner is embedded within Victoria Police's Family Violence Investigation Unit co-located at Wonthaggi Police Station.

You will successfully
- Ensure all clients who access the service are provided with non-judgemental, holistic support that demonstrates the mission and values of The Salvation Army
- Demonstrate commitment to The Salvation Army mission and values through decision making, actions and behaviours
- Demonstrate a commitment to justice within the workplace and community
- Communicate a shared understanding of the gendered nature of family violence and the compounding power structures that make women and children vulnerable to Family Violence
- Demonstrate an awareness of the issues in the lives of women and children who are experiencing or recovering from family violence
- Demonstrate respectful relationships through high level listening skills, facilitating clear and open communication, and achieve appropriate resolution of conflicts
- Demonstrate an ability to engage with clients, including all family members, accessing the service
- Adopt a holistic approach to addressing family violence and acknowledge cultural differences and respond in a culturally safe and sensitive way
- Co-review and co-triage family violence incidences in Division 5 (in accordance with protocols) alongside Victoria Police Family Violence Investigation Unit
- Conduct intake and assessment, and on-going risk assessments and develop safety plan in coordination with the A-FVRM FV Specialist (Men’s) and Victoria Police members to mitigate risk and ensure safety of victim survivors
- Conduct outreach services to encourage and support engagement of victim survivors adults, children and families
- Provide short term case coordination and case management
- Actively liaise with external services, refer as necessary and work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes for clients
- Build effective working relationships with Victoria Police members and lead and embed specialist family violence practice and perpetrator interventions a multidisciplinary team
- Ensure all practice is in alignment to the TSA Family Violence Model of Care, Safe and Equal Code of Practice, and FV MARAM Framework

This is a max term (2 year contract) full-time position located in Leongatha, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 6 Award.

You will have
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent- It is desired that the practitioner will have a minimum of two years family violence service experience and/or demonstrate an understanding of;- the gendered nature of family violence and the compounding power structures that make women and children vulnerable to Family Violence
