**About the role**

The Associate Director, Indigenous Strategy is a member of a team which provides high level support to the University’s Indigenous leadership and Chancellery’s Office of the Provost, managing a whole of University approach to key Indigenous strategies and a range of projects and initiatives.

The Associate Director, Indigenous Strategy plans, manages and delivers major strategic projects within the Indigenous strategy portfolio to support the equitable participation of Indigenous students and staff and with respect to the University’s Indigenous teaching and learning, research and cultural heritage capabilities. The incumbent also plays a key project management role in developing, monitoring and implementing the University’s strategic Indigenous plans.

**About you**

The University of Melbourne is seeking a strategic Indigenous leader with excellent relationship building and community engagement skills. The Associate Director, Indigenous Strategy will be able to work with and provide advice to the Director, Indigenous Strategy and the University’s senior Indigenous Leaders. You will have excellent communication skills across all media and have the demonstrated ability to write clear reports for senior and executive staff.

**Key Requirements**:

- Postgraduate qualifications or substantial progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant strategy development, program and project management experience OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies, cultures and issues affecting Indigenous Australians with a demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a variety of Indigenous Australian stakeholders including staff, students, Traditional Owners, Elders, community groups and organisations.
- High-level interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and manage sensitive stakeholder relationships including with government and peak bodies.
- Demonstrated track-record designing, managing and delivering complex and/or high-profile programs and/or projects aligned with organisational strategic priorities.
- High level research, academic writing and interpretation skills

**Identified Position Essential Requirements**

A Declaration of Heritage will be required as a part of the University of Melbourne’s onboarding process. Documents can include:

- A properly executed confirmation document from an incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation the individual meets the three criteria.
- A letter signed by a Director or individual who is authorised by the Director of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation on the organisation’s letterhead which affirms the individual meets the three criteria
