**About the department**:
- The Department of Vascular Surgery, is part of the Division of Surgery Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine, is responsible for the provision of diagnostic, outpatient, open vascular and endovascular surgical services to patients across Austin Health. Located primarily at the Austin Hospital, the Department is committed to the provision of high-quality patient care and maintains an ongoing commitment to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. It also provides a consultative service for other teams within Austin Health and is highly engaged with multidisciplinary surgical care. Outpatient clinics run regularly at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and Austin Tower campuses of Austin Health. The Vascular Surgery Head of Department is A/Prof Jason Chuen.**About the role**:
- There are a number of surgical sessions and outpatient sessions per week, pre-admission clinics are included in the outpatients’ sessions for some units.- Hours per week: Available 43 hours per week

**Clinical Care**
- Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, resident, nursing and other staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum.
- Attend and facilitate operating sessions as directed.
- Provide a consultative service to other Units as required.
- Attend to all inpatient referrals within 12 hours.
- Attend to emergency referrals as required.
- Review and triage outpatient referrals as required.
- Participate in the on-call roster.
- Perform after hours work and night duty as required.
- Cover other surgical units as requested by the Hospital.
- Participate in Unit meetings and Clinical sessions.
- Participate in the auditing and review of clinical practices to improve clinical outcomes.
- Maintain data entry into the Australasian Vascular Audit.
- Attendance at Division of Surgery audit is compulsory and attendance at Surgical Grand Rounds is expected.
- Assist with duties within the Vascular Laboratory including triage, reporting and diagnostic duties as directed.
**Teaching and training**
- Participate in ongoing medical education and professional development
- Participate in registrar presentations, audits and medical students teaching.
- Assist with Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching of medical and other students
- Maintain a personal procedural logbook.
**Research & Education**
- Support is available for conferences and educational sessions.
- Registrar-led research is encouraged.
- Participate in departmental research activities as directed.
**Other**
- Assist the Head of Unit in administrative duties as required.
- Assist in making a safe working environment by reporting any incidents of unsafe work practices, sites or equipment and assist in the resolution of these issues.
- Participate in Austin Health performance appraisal program as required.
- Undertake not to reveal to any person or entity any confidential information relating to patients and employees, policies, processes and dealings and not to make public statements relating to the affairs of Austin Health without prior authority of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Participate in the emergency incident response activities, as defined within the Emergency Response Manual, as and when required, at the direction of management.
