The Endocrinology Department is part of the Medical Services Division. The unit has three inpatient beds and also has short-term admissions in the Emergency Short Stay Unit. Around 15-20 inpatients are referred to the unit each week, the various

outpatient clinics see 4000 patients per year. The Endocrinology Department has an important role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and is closely affiliated with the University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine.

The Department of Endocrinology currently operates weekly clinics (3 diabetes, 1 general endocrinology, 1 lipid, 2 osteoporosis, 1 weight control, 1 men’s and women’s health clinic and a gender clinic fortnightly off site at PANCH YCH).. There is a large inpatient load, which includes all areas of endocrinology. There is an active neurosurgery and cardiac surgery unit as well as contact with patients at the Mercy Maternity Hospital. The Department of Endocrinology is very active in research in all fields of endocrinology including bone, diabetes, androgens and obesity.
