**About the Neurosurgery department**:
The Department of Neurosurgery occupies a 32 bed ward shared with the Vascular Surgery & ENT Units.

The Neurosurgery Unit comprises of 8 sessional surgeons and 9 operating lists per week.

Outpatient clinics involve 2 x General Neurosurgery Clinics, Post-operative clinic, Carpal Tunnel clinic, Pituitary clinic, Neurovascular clinic, Pre-admission clinic and Radiculopathy clinic.

The Unit has a particular interest in Epilepsy Surgery, Complex Spinal surgery, Tumour surgery and DBS surgery.

Located at the Austin Hospital, the Unit is committed to the provision of high quality patient care and maintains an ongoing commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

The Unit also provides a consultative service for other Units. The Neurosurgery Unit is part of the Cancer and Neurosciences Division.

**About the role**:
The position of Non-Accredited Registrar in Neurosurgery involves the management and care of patients in every aspect, including assessment, operative and non-operative management, and post-operative care and follow-up in close conjunction with the Doctor in Training and Consultant

staff. The Unaccredited Registrar is expected to perform the duties of the position efficiently, according to the standards of the Department of Neurosurgery, including participating in the Austin Health performance appraisal program.

**To be successful in this role you must**:

- Exhibit a commitment to Austin Health values.
- Hold current registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation
- Agency (AHPRA) - (note eligible applicants will be assisted through this process).
- Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Neurosurgery.
- Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate at all levels.
- Demonstrate capability and interest in research.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching.

**Desirable but not essential**:

- Demonstrated understanding of Clinical Governance.
