**About the Role**

This role, working within the Federal Courts System, would see the successful applicant working with Children and their Families to conduct intake, assessments and case management to gather an understanding of their situation to ultimately be able to make a recommendation to the courts about the child or children’s well being. Working with complex and high-risk cases, the role of the Child Court Practitioner is an integral part of the court system in Australia.

**Skills and Abilities**:

- At least (5) five years’ of post-graduate experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or have experienced abuse and neglect
- Demonstrated specialist skills in at least one of the following areas trauma, attachment, social-emotional development, drug and alcohol, mental health, family and domestic violence, child development and disabilities
- Experience working in a statutory environment would be advantageous

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Conducting child-centered preliminary and comprehensive family assessments, including conducting interviews and observations with children
- Assisting parties to resolve or narrow the issues in dispute between them, including by undertaking parenting dispute resolution conferences in collaboration with a Judicial Registrar
- Providing evidence to the Courts as an expert witness in the form of written reports and/or oral testimony
- Undertaking risk screening and risk assessment to assist in case management and safety planning
- Providing advice to parties and the Courts regarding external support services for children and families

**Requirements of the role**:

- A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (social work or psychology preferred)
- Registration or eligibility for AASW or AHPRA
- Relevant state WWCC
- Willingness to undergo and obtain a clear National Police Check
