**Your next exciting job opportunity -**

To continue our success, we are looking for an **Aquatic Ecologist** to undertake or support the planning and implementation of field-based collection, analysis and reporting of freshwater ecology studies. The role carries out a variety of scientific assignments requiring general familiarity with a broad range of related scientific and engineering fields in the environmental sciences.

**In this role, you will have the opportunity to**:

- Work independently, performs technical work and exercises individual judgement and initiative (in conjunction with senior staff).
- Liaise with clients for the purposes of service delivery.
- Liaise with service providers for the purposes of service delivery.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of relevant software, systems, and processes.
- Prepare/review budget estimates for field and desk-top based assessments.
- Planning of field work, including logistics, safety, and field survey/experimental design.
- Co-ordinate and lead aquatic ecological surveys, including in PNG and other remote areas
- Undertake field investigations, including sampling of fish, turtles, aquatic macroinvertebrates, zooplankton, stygofauna, surface water and sediments.

**What you bring to the team**:

- Bachelor’s degree in freshwater or estuarine ecology.
- 5 years' professional experience specifically in freshwater estuarine ecological assessments ecological assessments in Queensland and/or eastern/northern Australia
- Working knowledge of aquatic flora and fauna in northern and eastern Australia, including identification of common aquatic plants and fish species, and major aquatic invertebrate groups (at least to Order for insects)
- Experience in using AusRivAS sampling and analysis methodology.
- Experience in conducting and interpreting surface water quality monitoring programs (use of monitoring systems/equipment highly regarded)
- Experience conducting univariate and multivariate statistical analysis.
- Experience in preparing technical brief and reports relating to aquatic/terrestrial ecology, water quality compliance and management, environmental impact assessments, and management plans.
- Can meet the requirements of a Generic Coal Board Medical and PNG medical and character requirements. Working knowledge of Queensland Commonwealth environmental legislation and policies
