We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an articulate, motivated, and dependable Associate Aquatic Ecologist to join our Aquatic Environmental Services team at the SLR Cleveland office in Queensland.
About you
We are looking for someone with relevant experience in ecological assessment and management within the consulting, government, or industry sectors. To be considered for this position, you should have demonstrated experience in building a client base and professional network related to your role. Collaboration on projects with the national team and other departments is something you should enjoy.
Skills and Qualifications
- Relevant bachelor's degree in Zoology, Marine Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 6 years' postgraduate experience as an aquatic ecologist, biologist, or water quality specialist – with expertise in scientific data collection in aquatic ecosystems
- Essential possession of a manual Driver's Licence
- QLD Boat licence or ability to acquire one
- Basic knowledge of GIS
- An enthusiastic and dedicated approach
In this full-time permanent position, you will be responsible for various aspects of project delivery including proposal preparation, project management, fieldwork, data analysis, and report writing.
Key Responsibilities and desired experience:
- Utilize your technical leadership skills in aquatic environmental services and be acknowledged for your specialized knowledge
- Proficiency in data analysis using multivariate techniques and proven ability to prepare reports to a high standard
- Hands-on laboratory experience including sorting, enumeration, identification, and sample preparation
- Lead and contribute to projects across freshwater and marine environments to ensure timely and high-quality results
- Experience in project management encompassing budgeting, invoicing, and client communication
- Demonstrated expertise in preparing aquatic impact assessments and familiarity with relevant legislation
- Conduct aquatic/water quality fieldwork in remote locations
- Assist in managing the maintenance, repair, and storage of field equipment
