Hobart, Australia University of Tasmania Full time

**Job no**: 498965

**Work type**: Part time

**Location**: Hobart

**Categories**: Administration, Farming, Animals and Conservation

**Industry Development Officer**
- Fixed term, part time position (0.6 FTE)
- Based in Hobart
- Working with local vineyards and Wine Tasmania on a joint venture with the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA)

**The Opportunity**

TIA has received funding from the Tasmanian Government (Agricultural Development Fund) to conduct a short-term project embedded in the Tasmanian wine and grape sector. The project team will involve and help grape growers conduct on-vineyard trials that directly inform wine business decisions about managing botrytis bunch rot. This grape disease causes crop loss, adds processing costs in the winery and limits the ability of the sector to sustain and grow premium wine brands.

The Industry Development Officer (IDO) will coordinate on-ground project activities and liaise directly with grape grower participants to provide timely reminders of key tasks, to co-design and implement data capture templates, to establish and maintain a system to share data and information, to moderate discussion/Q&A on the selected media, and to serve as the first point of contact for queries from the sector or other stakeholders. They will help design and implement group workshops and liaise with relevant professionals to produce communication and extension outputs. The IDO will also be required to work periodically with researchers for the collection of rigorous project evaluation data and with grower participants to assist and guide their data collection in the vineyard.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Liaise and work effectively with wine business participants to ensure on-vineyard trials are implemented in a timely and effective manner.
- Formulate routine procedures and guidelines for project participants.
- Organise meetings or workshops of project stakeholders for planning, implementation and/or reporting.
- Liaise with extension and/or communication professionals to co-develop and produce extension or communication materials.
- Undertake risk assessment for routine activities and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

**Your Application**:

- Knowledge about viticulture and/or perennial horticulture in a cool-climate context.
- Ability to manage small to medium-sized projects where procedures, techniques and methods require expansion, adaption, or modification.
- Capacity to conduct activities with farmer participants that consider their learning needs and that integrate well with on-farm operations or business needs.
- Proven ability to collate, describe and manage trial data from multiple sources.
- Experienced communication skills, especially the capacity to assimilate and convey information with appropriate interpretation, language, and format for the target audience.
- Effective teamwork and ability to work with a diversity of job functions.

**Remuneration**

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $110,273 pro-rata comprising base salary within the range of $86,918 to $94,250 pro-rata plus 17% superannuation.
